Marius Jenseg is the project manager who is truly passionate about fiber and telecommunications. So much so that he is happy to spend a Friday evening talking about the possibilities of fiber technology.
From Fiber Apprentice to Project Manager
Marius joined us at Transtema Norway as a project manager in May 2025. Today, he is responsible for some of our largest B2B projects, with full responsibility for budgets, customer relations, subcontractors and his own team.
His journey began as an apprentice and fiber technician, where he earned his trade certificate. He then joined a small company with three employees and helped build it from the ground up.
“It was an incredible learning experience. I learned planning, financial management, and that every project has to be profitable, otherwise I did not get paid that month.”
After his time as an entrepreneur, Marius moved on to the consulting side to support network owners. There, he worked on complex projects for hospitals, B2B deliveries and quality control.
What does a typical day as a Project Manager look like?
“No two days are the same, and my work involves a wide range of tasks, from final deliveries of large installations and relocation of central offices to follow up on B2B work, inspections to prepare accurate quotations, and complex transmission solutions within xWDM. Yesterday I was at the main central node in Oslo installing switches, then continued on to inspect work ahead of an upcoming installation. Projects can range from excavation work to fiber installations in newly built areas.”
What attracted you to telecommunications?
“I love fiber and telecommunications. It is advanced technology, and it is fascinating how it works. A glass cable, as thin as a strand of hair, can achieve incredible things. Almost all communication in society runs through fiber. Internet, data centers, emergency numbers and hospitals. I see our networks as more critical than the power supply. One day I am standing in a dirty tunnel, the next I am installing equipment in a clinically clean data center. I cannot imagine working with anything else.”
How do you see the future of fiber?
“The Norwegian Communications Authority emphasizes the importance of every household having redundancy, meaning two connection options. Fiber will therefore continue to grow. I believe we need to invest more in operation and maintenance of our communication networks. With new technology, more towers and sites will also need to be built to ensure good coverage.”
Why did you choose Transtema?
“I have worked in the industry for ten years and was well aware of Transtema and their reputation for delivering quality. The people, the atmosphere and the level of expertise here are very high, and I enjoy seeing how our installations develop from drawings to finished solutions.”
Why would you recommend a career in telecommunications?
“You get to help shape the future. The industry is constantly evolving, and there is always something new to learn. It is also a critical societal function. Robust and secure networks are essential. Imagine that the fiber connection in your home is physically connected to the entire world, with signals traveling at nearly the speed of light. That is quite exciting when you think about it that way.”
